Harry Cody Horse Camp

codysignwww

Its ready! A new place to camp and ride. Terrain is somewhat steep but the views at the top are ‘Camera Ready’! We saw deer but only elk tracks as the elusive giants became ghosts of the forrest. Quite a few huge trees blocking the trail in various places but we cut our way around and hung ‘logger tape’ for others to find their way thru. If your horse isn’t in good shape be sure to take lots of breaks going up the hills. Enjoy your stay up to 14 days and its free camping so keep the place neat.

Cody HC is easy to find, even a caveman can do it!
The camp is very wooded and has lots of downed firewood available. There is ONE horse water tub and one hand pump about 500 feet away. In order to fill the water tub, you have to turn a knob and flip a valve and pump the handle at least 60 times per horse to fill the tub, somewhat. We did haul a few buckets to the horses from the pump as it was all downhill.
Nice camp. Steep terrain and awesome views. Lots of elk sign but thats all we saw, just tracks. Crossing the Cispus River was easy as it is clear and calm. Muddy Creek however is roaring and glad we didn’t have to cross it at anytime.

Harry Cody’s in-laws came to camp here July of 07 for the first time since its dedication in Sept. of 2005. Linda Cody was expected to be at the camp the next day.

waste of trees

Near Elk mountain looking for a trail below.

stone tr.ridgeback

7B crosses this road. We decided to see what was down there. A big waste of forest products. Pile upon pile of small diameter trees half covered in black plastic like to be burned in future. Too bad. Should be given to firewood hunters since thats what it is good for now.

Looking toward Elk Mt. 7A trail turns into a stone ridgeback Pretty neat. Was glad there were sides on it.

Beauty is all around you. Even the ‘bug’ on the top flower was interesting. Do you see it?

Couldn’t help but notice this sign at Midway Meadow.
Do you think that this sign is part of the fragil meadow habitat? Its ‘bolted’ into that fragil tree!
